Detailed description

A bit of story

Caprasia was presented by Bodegas Vegalfaro in a very special way. It consisted in a visit to the Solana de Las Pilillas, an iberian winery which dates back to the 5th century B.C. All elaboration processes were explained there and have become the origin of what it has been wanted to commemorate with the wine of the bobal variety called "Caprasia". The land of the goats, just as the iberian people called the plateau which exists between the mountains range of Cabrillas and the river Cabriel. The Pago de los Balagueses de Vegalfaro is found just behind of the mountains, a place in which the pago wine of the same name is also born. The vineyards of such wine are placed on the slopes, where soil is chalky, parcels are isolated from other vineyards and flanked by pine tree forests and aromatic herbs that make the ecosystem unique.

Making

The wine comes from La Finca Alfaro's bobal vineyards whose property belongs to the winery. The parcels chosen contain goblet-pruned vines (55 years old average age).

Cultivation is made through goblet-pruned plantation in clay-calcareous and frank sandy soils with gravel in the subsoil. Goblet-Pruning takes place looking for the balance in the arrangement of the little bunches in future.

Fermentation takes place at low temperatures with a previous cold maceration. Malolactic in barrels and ageing during 14 months in european 225 litres oak barrels (French-Hungarian-Rumanian) with light and medium toasts. Later, ageing takes place inside 150 litres amphoras during 5 moths.

The wine comes from a very dry year, without spring rains, warm but without extreme West winds. Bottled in June 2014.

Tasting

An intense cherry red colour is shown. In nose it shows good intensity with prominence of ripe fruit and soft toasted notes. In mouth it is fresh, sweet tanines, good acidity and good journey.
